Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity

Focus Statement:
The principle investigators in field of psychology in sport and physical activity are Dr Nikola Medic, Assoc Prof Barry Gibson and Ms Barbara Howard. The focus of Assoc Prof Gibson’s research is leadership issues in sport.

Dr Medic’s research to date has been aimed at examining the determinants and consequences of sport participation and performance, physical activity, habitual training and exercise behaviour from a motivational perspective. He has been particularly interested in applications of the Self-Determination Theory and the Sport Commitment Model to the study of motivational and psychological well-being issues in a number of populations ranging in age and ability.
